oh my giddy aunt page 6

Tegan found herself sat behind a table, of which was sat a small metal lie detector. Two of her fingers were attached via two black wires to the detector as a brown-skinned man with a bald head and black facial hair stared back at her.

‘Alright, let’s get this shit done,’ he said. ‘First, do you have an association with the Doctor?’

‘Yes. I was his companion back when I was trying to begin a career as Air Hostess. I found myself entering his blue box, believing it to be a real one.  From then on, I became the Doctor’s companion,’

The lie detector made a “ding” sound.

‘What about his enemies? Have you ever found yourself in alliance with them?’

‘Nope. Never have, never will,’

The lie detector yet again made a “ding” sound.

‘Alright. Now we get to the big stuff,’ the man said. ‘Do you pose a threat to UNIT?’

‘Do I heck. I have no reason to hate against you people. Now maybe if you were a part of the Australian government, that would be another story,’

‘How about the Doctor?’

‘I don’t want to bring that guy any harm. Violence is not my way. My way is making a point,’ Tegan replied.

‘So what the hell is it you want with the files, eh?’

‘I need them. I simply do. Can’t you see I’m not a threat here?’ she asked.

‘That may be the case but we need to check. This is a top secret government agency, Jovanka, and you’re asking for highly confidential UNIT files intended for UNIT personnel only,’ The man explained. ‘So if you don’t mind, can you give us a reason why you need these files?’

‘Alright. But don’t laugh,’ Tegan sighed. ‘I want to create a musical based on the Doctor. But not just a musical. A warning on the consequences of travelling with the Doctor and the death and destruction that follows his travels,’

‘I guess there’s no harm in that,’ he muttered. ‘Alright, Jovanka. You can take the files. But if you work against the Doctor or our organisation, I’ll beat the shit out of you before you have a chance to trouble our organisation anymore,’

~~~
Kate Stewart entered the lie detector room, carrying a pile of papers. However, just as she was about to hand them over, she heard a familiar vworping noise coming from behind her and the wind of a dozen poor British summers. Sure enough, a blue police box formed around an empty part of the room. A silver-haired man stepped out, followed by a figure Kate recognised as Clara. It didn’t take long for Kate to realise this man was the Doctor.
‘Don’t give her the papers!’ he roared.
‘But we’ve done the lie detector test on her and she doesn’t seem to pose a threat to us or anyone for that matter,’ protested Kate.
‘Then your test failed. She’s working for Madam Kovarian and Kovarian wants me dead,’ said the Doctor. ‘I’ve just seen the musical. It practically encourages my death,’
Kate stared. ‘Strap her hands onto the detector,’ Kate barked at the man who had interrogated Tegan. ‘Ask her about Kovarian,’
‘Alright, let’s get this nonsense over with,’ he said. ‘Are you or are you not working for this Kovarian?’
‘N-no, I-I don’t want to k-kill the Doctor. I j-just want to w-w-arn p-people ab-b-out the d-death and d-d-estruction, that’s all,’ Tegan stammered.
The lie detector beeped.
‘Well well, seems you’re lying,’ the man smiled cruelly. ‘Next time, make sure you think twice before trying to fool us,’
Two UNIT soldiers ran into the room and dragged Tegan out roughly.
‘Well, I think it’s time we left. Until next time, Kate,’ the Doctor said.
‘Until next time. And I’ll make sure we’re more protective over who we consider giving our files to from now on, Doctor,’
‘Hey, you weren’t to know,’ said Clara, smiling.
The Doctor and Clara entered the TARDIS and shut the doors behind them.
~~~

'So, falling down the time stream affected you, too?’ asked Clara.

‘Falling down a time stream affects anybody stupid enough to do it,’ the Doctor said. ‘Time streams are powerful. They’re like a thousand teeth gnawing at once. Except, it’s not your body that’s splintered, It’s your life,’

‘But doesn’t that mean we’ve both lost some of our lifespan?’

‘Goodness, no. We certainly have not. No, as it splinters your life into separate lives, it also sustains the lifespan of the original body. The original body needs to exist for the others to live in their individual timelines,’ Explained the Doctor.

‘But why you? Why this incarnation? Why isn’t there a million chin boys running around different time zones?’ Clara asked.

‘My previous self already existed in that time stream. This was a body that both didn’t and wasn’t supposed to exist, yet still enough a part of me and my possible future to be the bodies of the other Doctors,’ he explained further. ‘You see, a Time Lord’s time stream can see past, future and present, alternate timelines, parallel universes, the lot. It’s both alive and dead at the same time,’

‘So there are a whole load of Doctors and Claras running around right now?’

The Doctor smiled.

‘Yep!’

Clara smiled back.

‘Then let’s go join them!’
